The Gucci watch is a fashion staple and has been for many decades. It is the epitome of style for millions of people around the world. But what do we really know about Gucci watches?
We are going to delve into the luxury fashion brand’s timepieces to see who makes Gucci watches and how you can spot a fake!
How Much Is A Gucci Watch?
Like most luxury brands, Gucci watches come at a premium. Some Gucci watches, like the signature dive, can be found for under £500. However, a good ballpark figure for a Gucci watch is between £1,000 and £2,000.
Currently, the most expensive Gucci watch for men on the website is the Gucci 25H at £7,500. The same watch is also the most expensive Gucci watch for women, although the smaller 34mm case results in a lower price of £3,200.
How To Tell If A Gucci Watch Is Real?
One thing many premium fashion designers have to contend with is counterfeits. Being such a desirable brand means lots of people aspire to own some of Gucci’s products. That’s why fakes are so commonplace, but like all good luxury brands, there are signs to look for to ensure you have a genuine article.
Gucci, in fact, is one of the most replicated watch brands in the world. With replicas looking more and more convincing, spotting a fake is getting harder.
One of the best ways to check if a Gucci watch is real or not is to look at the back of the case. You should see the watch’s serial number but if all you can see is ‘Gucci’ then you’ve got a fake.
Not all authentic Gucci watches even feature the brand logo on the watch case, so that can’t be your only reference point. Check for the ‘Swiss-made’ banner that appears below the 6 o’clock position. Again, if this is not present then you’re looking at a replica.
The watch hands are another giveaway when spotting a genuine Gucci watch. Gucci powers its watches with a Swiss quartz movement, which produces smooth-moving watch hands.
If you notice the hands ticking rather than smoothly moving around the dial it’s likely that a cheap mechanism is being used. This is, once again, a sign of a replica.
One of the easiest checks to make is the serial number on the watch. Every Gucci watch is sold with an authenticity certificate, which features a serial number. You can check this serial number with Gucci to confirm that the watch in question is genuine.
A final red flag is the price. Typically, if something seems too good to be true it usually is, and that certainly applies to luxury watch brands. Something significantly cheaper than the standard asking price is questionably fake.
Vintage Gucci Watches
Gucci established itself as a high-fashion brand since its inception in the early 1900s. However, the Italian fashion brand didn’t get into watchmaking until the 1970s.
Due to a series of poor financial choices, Gucci didn’t stay in the watchmaking game for too long after its first entry. Instead, Gucci went back to what it knew best – high fashion – and left making watches to the side until 1997.
In the late 1990s, Gucci teamed up with Swiss engineers to put itself back on the watchmaking map. Because of its lack of history, the vintage Gucci watch collecting market isn’t the biggest.
But, as the brand has been producing high-end watches for over 20 years, it’s only a matter of time before its vintage timepieces start to appeal. Some of the most iconic Gucci watch designs of the past include the G-Frame diamond watch and G-Timeless Moonphase.
Gucci Watch Bands
While a Gucci watch might last forever, sometimes the straps don’t. Especially after years of daily wearing. Fortunately, Gucci offers replacement watch bands for several of its timepieces.
That means you can upgrade a tired-looking strap or simply freshen up the way your watch looks after a few years.
While there are no Gucci Apple Watch bands for sale just yet, who knows in the future! As smartwatches become more popular it’s not unreasonable for fashion houses to partner with tech companies to give wearers the best of both worlds.
It certainly wouldn’t be the first time Apple partnered with a premium watchmaker following its collaboration with Hermes since 2015. Although perhaps due to that Hermes partnership it might take a bit more time before Gucci can join the Apple Watch party.
Some Of Gucci’s Greatest Hits
Gucci hits the nail on the head more often than it misses where its watches are concerned. We thought we would run through some of Gucci’s greatest watch collections, past and present, to give you a flavour.
Gucci Grip Watch
One of Gucci’s most recent successes is the Grip watch. It is designed with the grip of a skateboard in mind, which is why the dial is so flat and minimalist. The Grip fits snugly around the wrist and comes with three displays.
As far as gold Gucci watches go, it’s hard to go wrong with the G-Timeless. As the name suggests, the Timeless would suit its wearers in any era with original designs featuring the classic Gucci ‘G’ on the dial.
Gucci offers many variations of this watch to its customers and it comes with plenty of pattern choices to choose from.
Designed for women, Gucci shows off its diamante patterns on the dial of the Diamantissima watch. The patterns on the face deliberately resemble c, while the case comes in a small but elegant 27mm or 32mm diameter.
