Uniform Wares interviews Leon Edwards

We had the chance to chat with Leon Edwards and talked about his beginnings, his upcoming big fight in Vegas and, of course – his style.

What got you into the sport?

“A new gym was opening up in my area of Erdington, Birmingham, the Ultimate Training Center. My mom wanted me to join to get met off the streets. I didn’t really know what MMA was, but my mom got me into the gym at 17, and I haven’t looked back.”

After training for months with your opponent Khamzat Chimaev as the focus, and that then falling through on a couple of occasions – How difficult is it to shift your focus to a new opponent on short notice like Muhammed, who maybe brings something different style wise to the Octagon than you had been preparing for?

“I’ve got to focus on myself and can’t focus on what everyone else is doing. I’m going to stick to my game plan and trust the process which has gotten me to this point. It’s my first time fighting in Vegas, so I’m ready to go.”

Would you like to share with us your predictions for March 13th and how you see this one panning out? We fondly call you Rocky because of what your hands are known for. Can we expect a knockout Saturday night?

“I treat all fights the same. A fight is a fight. This my title fight, and I’m planning to hurt him and put him away.”

Tell us, what’s going through your head once you step in and the cage door is closed behind you?

“The preparation is done, I’m ready to go, I can perform and put all the hard work and skillset I’ve learned in training camp and show the fans I’m the best Welterweight in the world.”

Do you like to stand with your opponents or take them to the ground?

“I can do it all. It doesn’t matter. I enjoy it all, wrestling, stand up, clinch work, jiu-jitsu. I can put it all together!”

How would you describe your fashion style – outside of the cage, of course? Do you like a minimalist look?

“I’m big into my sneaker game. I have a lot of different styles of shoes. I’d say high style fashion would be my fashion game—a clean look with a nice balance of swag and simplicity.”

What do you think of your Uniform Wares watch?

“I love the watch! Like my fashion style, I love the simplicity and cleanness of my watch and the other watches Uniform Wares make. The design goes with my look and can be worn with different looks, from smart casual to more formal.”

You’re the number 3 ranked Welterweight in the UFC. It comes as no surprise that the men above and below you shied away from facing you. What is your message to them?

“Their day will come. It’s inevitable, I will beat them all and become UFC Welterweight Champion. They have no choice but to face me because I will keep winning.”
