1. How robust is a Uniform Wares watch?
Our watches are designed to be worn every day. However, activities that involve very strong vibrations and repeated impacts should be avoided when wearing a Uniform Wares watch. Repeated sharp impacts can have a negative effect on the watch movement or cause permanent damage.
2. What if condensation appears under the glass lens?
If your watch experiences a sudden change in temperature or pressure, slight condensation may appear under the sapphire lens. This mist should disappear by itself if the watch is left to sit in a cool, dry place for several hours and there should be no adverse effect on the watch’s function. If condensation persists, please contact us.
3. How water-resistant is a Uniform Wares watch?
The water-resistance of a Uniform Wares watch is always stated in atmospheric bars (ATM) on the case back of the watch. This rating is a measure of static pressure that the watch is able to withstand. This does not directly translate to water resistance at a certain depth (i.e. 100 metres) below sea level, which is used elsewhere in the watch industry for dive watch ratings.
ATM
water resistance is purely a measure of resistance to pressure (i.e. how well the watch unit is sealed) and does not take into account the presence of moisture or water or the activity or environment the watch is being used in, which could affect and exceed the rated ATM value.
Please note that the water-resistance of any watch is not a permanent characteristic. Seals and sealing systems, in particular, are subject to wear and tear and natural ageing. The following guide outlines acceptable usage for the ATM ratings of our watches:
3ATM
Avoid contact with water wherever possible. Exposure to high humidity is acceptable. Avoid wearing the watch whilst showering, swimming, diving or during any other activity where it may be subject to abnormal water pressures or environments where heat and moisture are present.
5ATM
Exposure to high humidity and light rain showers is acceptable. Avoid wearing the watch whilst showering, swimming, diving or during any other activity where it may be subject to abnormal water pressures or environments where heat and moisture are present.
10ATM
Activities such as showering, bathing, swimming in a pool and snorkelling are acceptable. The watch should not be worn whilst diving. Please rinse the watch with fresh water after exposure to a chlorinated pool, saltwater, soap, etc.
The ATM rating only refers to the watch head and not the strap. Straps made from natural materials such as leather should avoid contact with water or very high humidity atmospheres.
4. Do you sell straps in different sizes?
Uniform Wares straps are designed to fit a wide range of men’s and women’s wrists. Depending on the watch model, our watches will fit wrists with a circumference of approximately 14–21cm.
The length of Uniform Wares Milanese mesh bracelets or linked bracelets can be altered by adding or removing links. If you require extra links, please contact Uniform Wares via our contact page, and we will be happy to assist. Links can be added or removed at any reputable watch repair centre or at a Uniform Wares service centre.
5. How do I care for my nappa calf, textured calf or shell cordovan leather strap?
Uniform Wares leather straps are made from select hides from the best European tanneries. They are tanned using chromium and coloured using natural vegetable dyes. Over time and with wear, they will develop an inherent natural patina, including marks and stains, that improves with age.
Our leathers have been chosen for their natural character, which means they may display some scarring or marks. Please note that leather is a natural, porous material so contact with water or solvents should be avoided.
6. How do I care for my caoutchouc rubber strap?
After long periods of wear, a Uniform Wares caoutchouc rubber strap may require cleaning. To do so, please use a clean cloth and a mild detergent diluted in warm water to clean the affected areas. For more persistent marks, use a soft bristle brush and a mild detergent diluted in warm water to gently clean the affected areas. Avoid submerging the watch case in water and contact with solvents, which may damage the waterproof seals of the watch and the integrity of the strap.
7. How do I care for my Milanese mesh bracelet or linked bracelet?
Uniform Wares Milanese bracelets are produced from stainless steel that will not tarnish or rust. If your mesh bracelet requires cleaning, please use warm water and, if required, a mild detergent. Please do not submerge or place the watch under running water. Dirt in between the fine links can be removed with a soft bristle brush. Please ensure the crown of your watch is secure before cleaning your bracelet and avoid using solvents that can damage internal seals.
8. Leather allergy
Uniform Wares leather straps are chromium-tanned and may, on very rare occasions, cause a reaction. If you have experienced sensitivity or allergic reactions to leather or chromium-tanned products previously, please consult your physician for further advice.
9. Rubber allergy
Uniform Wares caoutchouc rubber straps are made from nitrile-butadiene rubber and may, on very rare occasions, cause a reaction. If you have experienced sensitivity or allergic reactions to synthetic or natural rubber products (such as latex or silicone) previously, please consult your physician for further advice.
10. Nickel allergy
